They wanted $850 plus tax to do a new cluster adaptation. Called the next day and said they couldn't do it because the used cluster had the VIN of another car burned into it already. My first option was to tow it to the local VW dealer who said no problem.they could adapt a used cluster that I bought with same year/motor/model number, but wouldn't warranty it. Used EBAY cluster of same model and year proved a cheap diagnostic with all functions acting normal except for IMMO and Air Bag Fault on display. The fuel and temp gauges would cycle to full right position when ignition was turned on and other odd behavior. I suspected a bad cluster because the odometer was cleared to 0000 with the letters dEF below. I've made good progress over the last few weeks and have a fairly good understanding of what I need. I've been working on replacing a dead instrument cluster in my 2003 Passat 2.8L GLX.
